NASA and Forest Service Use Balloon to Help Firefighters Communicate
NASA is flight testing the Strategic Tactical Radio and Tactical Overwatch (STRATO) system, a collaboration of NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley, the U.S. Forest Service, high-altitude balloon company Aerostar, and Motorola to improve real-time communications among firefighters battling wildland fires.
