A 137-acre wildfire burning in Kern County, California, is nearly contained (1); while Wildfire NOTD subscriber Max Moritz, a fire researcher at UC Berkeley's Center For Fire Research and Outreach, was lead author in a new study that shows how climate change will increase wildfire activity across the western US over the next 30 years (2); and the San Francisco Bay area is getting ready for wildfire season (3); the danger underscored by a wildfire in Brisbane (4); while the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council and the Humboldt County Fire Chiefs Association have set up a series of meetings to discuss wildfire preparedness (5). Heading to Australia, a reduction in bushfire safety warnings to residents of Mitchell Shire, Victoria, is a hopeful sign that bushfire education is having an impact (27); and property owners in Queensland are being advised to begin bushfire preparations (28); while the New South Wales state government has allocated $71 million to help with a variety of projects, including bushfires (29).
