The 4,500-acre Lower North Fork Fire continues to rage in Jefferson County, Colorado, having destroyed 28 homes, killing two people (3); the following article providing statistics on the blaze (4); even as reinforcements continued to pour in from out of state (5); tardy air-tankers making up for lost time as the winds died down (6); and the National Guard received a call to action (7); while an elite Urban Search and Rescue team is looking for a missing woman in the fire area (8); but thick smoke is blanketing Denver (9); the next article offering some useful evacuation tips for homeowners in the path of the blaze (10); and the video which follows featuring a view from the cockpit of an air-tanker in action over the fire (11); but Colorado State Forest Service admitted that their previous controlled burn was the source of this new blaze (12). Despite better-than-normal rainfall in early 2012, fire agencies across Texas said that the wildfire danger continues (13); where three people, including two firefighters, have been apprehended in regards to a 2011 wildfire sparked by fireworks in Guadalupe County (14). Arson investigators are checking out the origins of a nine-acre wildfire in South Dakota's Black Hills National Forest (15); while the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will be getting some advice from FireSafe Montana on how to prepare for the inevitable wildfires of summer (16). In Upstate New York, police feel they have a serial arsonist on their hands after 30 wildfires were set in Cayuga, Tompkins, Wayne and Ontario counties (17); and a Canadian hunting and fishing camp which was virtually destroyed by wildfires in Ear Falls, Ontario, last year that scorched over 100,000 acres is struggling to rebuild (18). Dry, warm weather has spawned several wildfires across the UK (19); a large gorse fire being reported in Newry, Northern Ireland (20); another blaze being reported in Rhondda, Wales (21); the warm weather prompting fire officials with Scotland's Grampian Fire and Rescue Service to issue wildfire warnings for that area as well (22); and firefighters in Berkshire's Swinley Forest doing the same (23). Fire officials in India reported that a forest fire that had been burning in Northern Kodagu for the past three days was finally under control (24); the next article taking a look at the Nagarahole region, which has been hammered by wildfires over the past month (25); while fire officials in the Western Ghats have deployed 50 additional forest watchers in order to catch forest fires early (26). A population of Orangutans on Indonesia's Sumatra Island is in danger of extinction due, in part, to human-caused forest fires (27). An Erickson Air-Crane and three helitacks scrambled to deal with an out-of-control bushfire that scorched 45 hectares in Koondoola, Western Australia (28); but four months on, homeowners in Margaret River are still trying to recover from their own bushfire (29). And finally, firefighters in Portland, Oregon, saved a horse from a septic tank disaster so that she could celebrate her 34th birthday!
