In wildfire news today, Los Angeles County firefighters jumped on a wildfire outside of Gorman, California; and firefighters aided by aircraft fought a small wildfire to a standstill in Northern California Saturday. Washington state's budget shortfalls have impacted their inmate firefighter program; but the problem of unbridled housing developments in the WUI is revisited by Ray Rasker, executive director of Headwaters Economics, in an article from Colorado. All seven of Manitoba's firefighting air-tankers will be outfitted with infra-red sensors (FLIR) and other enhancements to make them more capable in fighting fires in that Canadian province. A wildfire in the province of Labrador caused the evacuation of cabins in the area over the weekend. Wildfires continue to scorch the Himalayan foothills of India, as the next story shows. The recollections of a Country Fire Authority captain on Black Saturday were part of the testimony heard by the Royal Bushfire Commission in Melbourne, Australia.
