Oregon is dispatching fire crews to help with wildfires in New Mexico and Wyoming (7); and an article from Wallowa County revisits the controversy over air-tankers dropping retardant on wildfires (8); while fire officials in Yakima, Washington, are reminding residents that they face fines if they fail to mow vegetation around their property (9). A small wildfire was reported in the hills outside of South Reno, Nevada (10). Wildfire activity across Arizona is the focus of the next article (11); where a pair of youngsters was responsible for starting one in Flagstaff (12); the danger posed by homeless people living in national forests being the next point of discussion (13). New Mexico's 287,000-acre Whitewater Baldy Complex Fire is now 37% contained (14); where a DC-10 Very Large Airtanker saw some action yesterday (15); but an administrator from Texas-based Hardin-Simmons University had a close encounter of the fire kind outside of Ruidoso (16). Wildfire activity in Utah is summarized in the next article (21); where the National Transportation Safety Board has released preliminary results from their investigation into the crash of Tanker 11 (22).
