The next article takes a look back at a rash of wildfires that scorched Michigan's Upper Peninsula 80 years ago (17). In Europe, Italy and Greece reported five new wildfires (18); four people being injured by wildfires burning on the Italian island of Sardinia that have already scorched over 2,000 ha (19); and the military has been pressed into service helping battle wildfires in the Balkans (20); prompting the European Commission Emergency Response Centre to dispatch two firefighting aircraft to help with blazes in Croatia (21); while a dramatic increase in temperature in Russia's Siberia is pushing wildfires further north this year (22).
