WILDFIRE NEWS OF THE DAY - 080409

A small wildfire temporarily closed a Central California airport yesterday; but much larger ones have scorched over 5,000 acres around Fort Hunter Liggett. An update on the status of wildfires around Mt. Shasta, in Northern California, is provided by the next article. A wildfire in Washington state is nearing 500 acres. Colorado's new roadless rule has stirred up the ire of environmental groups; while a wildfire in Northwestern Colorado quickly grew beyond 1,000 acres yesterday.
