A California Congressman's efforts to support the Wildfire Prevention Act of 2013, which directs more money from FEMA to wildfire mitigation, is examined by our first story (1); while the

A golf tournament in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has raised $50,000 to benefit the Black Forest Fire Department and Care and Share of Southern Colorado in their efforts to aid wildfire survivors (3); and a Chicago, Illinois, botanical Garden is working with Colorado to identify plant species that could help restore land scorched by wildfires (4). New Hampshire, Maine and Canada are fighting a fungus which is killing groves of white pine trees, posing a threat to the forest industry and providing fuel for wildfires (5). In South Carolina, Horry County Fire Rescue battled a wildfire in the Carolina Forest (6); the next article providing some photos from the blaze (7). The long-term emotional effects of Victoria, Australia's, Black Saturday bushfires on men have been revealed by a study from Women’s Health Goulburn North East (8). And finally, firefighters in Uhrichsville, Ohio, can add a new skill to their repertoire: washing machine extrication!
