International Association of Wildland Fire, sent along an invitation to a webinar that will look at fuel consumption's influence on wildfire smoke in the Eastern US (1); and Wildfire NOTD subscriber Tony Morris, Communications Director at Southern California-based
Wildfire Research Network, wrote an article about his experiences with the Canadair CL-415 following the award of a contract for a CL-415 by USFS (2). Hearings on altering building standards in wildfire-prone portions of Kittitas County, Washington, are continuing (3); while in Colorado, US Sen. Mark Udall joined a bipartisan group of Western Senators in supporting language in the Farm Bill which would localize wildfire-prevention efforts and reauthorize stewardship contracts (4). Improvements to Utah's Cedar City Air Center to facilitate more wildland firefighting aircraft have been announced by the Color County Interagency Fire Management team (5); and an employee of Bradford County, Pennsylvania, was honored for his work fighting wildfires in the Loyalsock State Forest (6). There was trouble in paradise as a serial wildfire arsonist's activities in Hawaii County, Hawaii, forced officials to ask for the public's help (7); while the city of Tijuana, Mexico, plans to use several small drones for, among other things, tracking wildfires (8). And finally, Firefighters Without Borders is doing its part to help firefighting brethren in need!
