WILDFIRE NEWS OF THE DAY - 081508

In the news today, more info on the service in Oregon for the firefighters killed in the S-61 crash, followed by an article highlighting discussion on possible changes in tactics due to the crash. Another state (Arizona this time) is reporting fewer wildfires than normal so far, but another article about Global Warming’s effect on wildfires follows. Salt Lake Tribune runs an extensive article on the Yellowstone fire’s 20th anniversary. Two articles convey some details on Montana’s Gunbarrel Fire and a detailed update of Idaho’s wildfires follows. Good news from Porterville and the Central Coast as the wildfires there are contained. Residents of Big Bar decide to stand and fight despite the encroachment of two wildfires on that town. Finally, a bit of wildfire news once again out of Turkey as 10,000 hectares (about 22,000 acres) burn there.
