WILDFIRE NEWS OF THE DAY - 110812

A letter to the editor protests the impact of the State Fire Tax on residents of the Southern California beachside community of Malibu (1); while CAL FIRE reported a nine-acre wildfire burning near the desert community of Palm Springs (2); but a hazardous fuel reduction program in the Plumas National Forest has been redesigned in the aftermath of the Chips Fire (3). The next article takes a look at Oregon's controversial Northwest Forest Plan, which aims to practice ecological forestry (4); windy, dry conditions in Nevada's Carson City District prompting wildfire warnings from the Bureau of Land Management (5).
