To reduce the wildfire threat near Flagstaff, Arizona, firefighters will be igniting debris piles today (3); but the Cow Creek Fire, which has been burning in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park since late June, has reached the 1,200-acre mark (4); while the next article gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at how a little horse-trading allowed Colorado State Forest Service to pick up some new apparatus on the cheap! (5) National Park Service fire managers will be torching over 3,400 acres in South Dakota's Wind Cave National Park (6); but a Washington Post article paints a grim picture of a bad wildfire season for the South this winter as conditions remain unusually dry (7). Fire managers met in Lufkin, Texas, to discuss controlled burns on over 13,000 acres of the Angelina National Forest (8); and a deadly automobile collision in Kentucky sparked a wildfire by Interstate 80 (9). Firefighters announced that they had the 3,515-acre wildfire burning in Louisiana's Kisatchie National Forest 60% contained (10); while the US Forest Service is imposing fire restrictions in national forests across Alabama as drought conditions worsen (11); and high wildfire danger warnings have also been issued by the National Weather Service across parts of West Virginia as a cold front moves through (12). TangentLink sent along an announcement about their upcoming aerial firefighting conference that will take place in Malaga, Spain, in early December (13); something that may be of interest to firefighters across the Mediterranean in Algeria, North Africa, which reported a pair of new wildfires (14). Villagers of Nanyumbu District in the Mtwara Region of Tanzania, Africa, were asked by authorities to reduce the number of agricultural fires they set, fires which can quickly blossom into out-of-control bushfires (15); and as smoke from wildfires burning on Indonesia's Sumatra Island choked the air of nearby Singapore and Malaysia, health warnings were issued to people with respiratory problems (16). And finally, although CL-415 Super Scooper manufacturer Bombardier was mentioned in a brochure touting Ontario, Canada's, aerospace programs, Canadore College, which resides in the same city, is complaining that it wasn't mentioned at all!
