Although Southern California has received some light rain, authorities are cautioning residents that the fire danger is not over (1); while Undersecretary of Agriculture Harris Sherman has pledged $1.8 million to help with Burn Area Emergency Recovery efforts outside of Boulder, Colorado, where the Fourmile Canyon Fire burned (2). As the 13th Annual Capital Area Wildfire Academy gets underway in Texas, firefighters will be getting wildland fire training through November 1st (3); but the mayor of a Michigan town that was devastated by wind-driven fires a few weeks ago is seeking a federal disaster declaration, something usually reserved for communities hit by wildland fires (4). A self-professed "fire nut" who runs a wildfire program at Wisconsin's Fox Valley Technical College is profiled in the next article (5); while a teenager accused of lighting several wildfires in Eau Claire County has been sentenced to jail (6).
