WILDFIRE NEWS OF THE DAY - 081908

Reno's Fire Marshal is giving homeowners an earful in today's first wildfire news item, followed by another on the theme of homeowner responsibility. Oregon is now besieged by a host of lightning-sparked wildfires, as the next article shows. A wildfire in Montana is making fire managers and residents nervous as it mushrooms to 600 acres on land that hosted an 80,000 acre blaze some years back. Fire managers weren't taking any chances with a wildfire by Clear Lake, hitting it with a half-dozen air-tankers. A brushfire in southern Riverside County resulted in two firefighter injuries and will be occupying firefighters' attention through the night, and another near Lancaster that started this past weekend was being contained. Idaho had to close some national forest land due to wildfires, as related by two stories, while wildfires continued sweeping across eastern Washington state. After a fairly calm period, lightning sparked a few wildfires in British Columbia. And finally, the heart-warming story of a bear cub rescue after the California wildfires - a fairly scrappy cub at that!
