A new study led by Southern Methodist University published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests that people living in wildfire-prone areas can learn to use fire as an ally to prevent dangerous wildfires, just like people who lived in the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico nearly 1,000 years ago.
