In Southern California, San Diego-based Utility Consumers Action Network is claiming that SDG&E wants to recoup $463 million in liability costs from ratepayers to cover wildfire losses in 2007 (1); even as Firehouse World Expo, which is taking place at San Diego Convention Center, is expecting to draw over 5,000 visitors (2). Scientists are debating what the true fire regime is in northern Arizona (3); while donations, including a new brush truck for the fire department, continue to pour into Smithville, Texas, which was hard hit by wildfires in 2011 (4). A firefighter remained in stable condition after being injured in a wildfire in Blue Eye, Missouri, Monday (5); and fire agencies will be conducting controlled burns on nearly 25 acres in Delaware's Cape Henlopen State Park (6). In South Carolina, where 3,000 wildfires annually cost $25 million to suppress, there is a debate in the state Senate over the Prescribed Fire Act (7); but several wildfires in central Florida have kept firefighters busy (8). The danger from a 30,000-hectare bushfire which has been threatening Northcliffe, Western Australia, for almost two weeks is finally diminishing (13); but even though a bushfire near the Shire of Dundas was officially extinguished on Saturday, FESA firefighters will continue to monitor the site for some time in case of a rekindle (14); and after spending six months in the hospital recovering from injuries suffered in a bushfire in Kimberly, an ultra-marathoner is finally going home (15). Tasmania's Climate Commission offered a grim forecast for industry in that state if measures are not taken to correct Global Warming (16).
